Free holiday concerts

I love FM100's holiday concerts. They are free and a nice way to get into the holiday spirit. For this year's lineup, starting with tomorrow's concert featuring Nathan Osmond and Cherie Call, (pictured above) go here. The concerts are held at the South Towne Center in Sandy at noon. We began going to these when they were held in downtown Salt Lake City, and try to catch at least a few during each holiday season.

Thursday's concert features Abe Kaelin and Michael Dowdle (pictured below).

Kennecott Bingham Canyon copper mine

Not Europe by any means, but still a world-renowned spot, most people have heard of this place but haven't been there. Kennecott's Bingham Canyon copper mine is the world's largest man-made excavation.

It's out of this world; so huge it can be seen from outer space! Visitors can literally look over the edge of the huge pit.

It only costs $5 per vehicle to visit. Kennecott donates all the proceeds to charity.

Fun event for families

Don't forget, the Ready! Set! School! preschool readiness initiative is staging an informational event at the Discovery Gateway children's museum on Saturday, August 22. Parents can learn about preparing preschoolers for kindergarten, and children can see a baby kangaroo, watch a magic show and science demonstration and play in the museum.  A discounted admission price of $3.25 per person is available. For more information, go here.

July 1-October 31st

Just in time for Independence Day, the Salt Lake Art Center will
open All American: Defining Ourselves in a Time of Change.

complex and difficult to characterize.
As American as apple pie. An All American Family.
What do we mean when we use these phrases?

This exhibition features 13 contemporary national and regional
artists working in a variety of media, whose work raises questions about traditions and history that define us as a way of exploring
what it means to be an American.

Tickets:
Free
